Sacrifice

Sacrifice

A Poem by Maylea
"

it is what it is.

"

I gave my all to complete
A difficult trial to defeat
But even after I gave my all
I failed and took a mighty fall

So I take the pain of that fall
And tape it to my wall
And there it sits beside the rest
Of times I wasn’t at my best

That’s all I ever seem to see
All my failures staring back at me
I Can’t forgive myself at all
Somebody has to take that fall

And here in this dark night
I see a hilltop shine with light
A man nailed to a wooden cross
I fall to my knees utterly at loss

I cry out his name
Covered in my shame
Because I have failed
To this cross he is nailed

I beg him to forgive me
I’ll take his pain for free
But he loves me to much
My love wouldn’t be enough

So I wait there as the light goes out
The silence like lost voices crying out
Or a hundred hearts filled with doubt
But then I see him come to me
No more sin, I’ve been set free
But his scars remain for the world to see.

He died there that night
Darkness covered the light
But he rose again the third day
And light paved a way

I think you tried to overdo the whole rhyming thing.

This comes as a shock to a lot of writers, but poetry doesn't have to rhyme.

I know, scary right? That's what I thought too.

But poetry is the language of life, it flows as we flow and moves as nature moves. It is the voice of nature and of nature's inhabitants. It how our simple lives speak, and our lives don't play out in measured rhyme and meter.
