if my poems could fly

if my poems could fly

A Poem by shoaib

I wrote my first poem on a paper airplane
Because I had no idea how else to give it wings
I was once to afraid to share them with others
Part of the anxiety that the fear of failure brings
It was heartbreak that gave me the courage to share
I heard others say you need to release these things
But I always felt that poetry was a way to feel understood
Because after being burnt alive I felt I still had a voice that sings
And when I did it was the kindness of others and support
That encouraged me to BE me and write after all the stings

I wrote another poem on a paper airplane
And threw it into an ocean of despair
This poem was my voice and my heart in words
So I let it fly to be heard by anyone who cared
Yes, sometimes I want them to reach the whole world
Yet as I get older I feel the joy when someone is thankful that I shared
And I’ve come to see that that we all write poems that can fly
Not because of what they achieve, but because we simply dared

I’m writing this poem on a paper airplane
And I thank everyone who catches it and passes it on
Simply write your name on my plane
And throw it to someone else who might not feel so strong
Because I have thousands of your poems in my hands
And they’ve given me the strength to float on
So fold me in your hearts and throw me towards the stars
And every night after this, we will wake up to a different dawn

So here are all my poems on paper airplanes because if my poems could fly…
They could travel the universe to make it into hearts that will live on after I die

poetry is not really my delight but i do really enjoy reading the poems you create. the words you use beg the reader to understand and share in the emotions you give and that is something very unique

Beautiful Poem

I think that we all suffer from the anxiety of sharing every once in a while that's why we sometimes hide our writing from the world. But it's always nice to share and give voice to our emotions.

Wow, this is a truly beautiful piece! It is very inspiring and completely true
Poetry has always been a way for me to let out the feelings that I cannot
speak and afterwards I always feel better especially when I share them with others.
There are so many lines in this poem that I really adored, but I suppose if I had to pick one I really enjoyed this one: "And threw it into an ocean of despair" because of the overall feeling it gives me after reading it. "ocean of despair" gives more strength into the poem in my opinion along with certain others, but like I said there are just too many quotes from the poem that I really enjoyed to write them all down. ^_^ a truly wonderful piece of work I really enjoyed reading it.
