The sirens were screaming as the police cars sped past on their way to crime scene at the Martin house.

The only people who knew what had happened, were the ones in the crowd outside the house, but tomorrow it would be all  over the news.

It had been a year since Samantha Martin had gone missing. She had come home, not the way people had hoped, but the way people were expecting.

The house was surrounded by police tape and the streets were full of police cars, ambulances, and, of course, lots of people.

Nothing much happens in the small town of Bluewater, CA. With a population of only 307 people, not much could happen. On the rare occasion  something did, everyone knew about it.

Samantha's three closest friends arrived at the house just as they were wheeling out her body, covered by a white sheet.

None of them could watch as they loaded her into the ambulance. They all knew she was gone, but that was going to change.

"Guys!" Mary shouted at Emily and Eeva who were further down the school hallway. The whole school had been suprised that all of them had shown up.

"Mary what is it?" Eeva asked.

"I don't think Sam is gone." Emily started tearing up.

"Do we have to talk about this right after..." She couldn't finish.

"Ya Mary. We all saw her yesterday." Eeva said.

"We don't know that was her."

"The police and doctors all say that it's her. What reason do you have not to believe them?"

Mary held out a piece of paper. "I found it this morning"

Dear Mary, Eeva, and Emily,

I love all of you guys. You have always been there for me. I’m sorry I won’t be there for you.

Love you, Samantha.

"She probably wrote that before she went missing. Sam liked notes." Eeva said putting emphasis on the past tense of the word.

"Sam was always playing games. Maybe this is one of them."

"This isn't a game. I can't talk about this anymore." Emily said and walked away. Mary looked at Eeva hopefully.

"I've gotta get to class" Eeva handed her the note. Mary stood there and watched her walk away.

After school, Mary saw Eeava and Emily so she ran to catch up with them. "Hi Mary. Sorry we left you earlier, but it wasn't exactly a cheerful conversation." Eeva said.

"It's okay. Come over later?" They both nodded.

They spent the night talking about Samantha; what they would miss the most about her. They looked at old photos of the four of them. They looked so happy.

Mary woke up before the others. It was still dark outside.

She saw something on the table next to the couch on which she had fallen asleep.

She stood up and shook the others until they woke up. "Mary? What are you doing, it's too early." Eeva muttered groggily.

"I found something. I think we should all look at it together."

"Mary not this again. We already told you, she's gone." Emily said.

"This isn't a note. It's something more and I swear it wasn't here when we fell asleep."

Slowly they all got up and moved onto the couch and Mary picked up the folder.

"It's full of medical records!" Mary said.

"Guys we shouldn't be looking at this. We aren't even supposed to have it." Emily fidgeted nervously.

"It's already here. It's not like we stole it, someone else did and they left it here." They all looked curiously as Mary opened the folder.

Written at the top of the first page was the name Isabelle Martin. Emily gasped. "She's got the same name as Sam!"

Mary reached down and picked up a file that had fallen on the ground. It was a birth certificate. "And the same parents! Sam had a sister!"

"Not just a sister." Eeva pointed at the birth date; It was the same as Samantha's." Sam had a twin."

They all sat there in shock. "I can't believe Sam never told us she had a twin."

Eeva took the folder and continued searching through the files. "This says that Sam and Isabelle were the only twins ever to be exactly the same. Even their fingerprints were identical."

" Do you think Isabelle ever took Sam's place?" They all shrugged.

Emily sighed. "We've been through everything."

"Wait!" Mary said. "There's one more!" A page had fallen out onto the ground.

It was a hand written death certificate for Isabelle. The date was October 21, the same night Sam had died.

At the bottom there was a signature; Sam's.

They all gasped.

Lighting flashed and standing outside the window was Samantha.

They all screamed and ran outside to find that Sam had left as quickly as she had come. In her place was a picture.

It was of the four of them together; smiling. This was the last picture taken before Sam disappeared. The last picture that the three of them had been looking at before they'd fallen asleep.

They looked at each other. "Sam's alive."
