Nature's ForceA Poem by EmeraldMy friend of mine was caught in a tsunami and this is the poem I wrote about it.Pressure deep inside the earth erupts. The incoming tide is a tsunami high and wide. Carnage maker. Corrupter of life. Indiscriminate taker. Shaker of faith. Earthquake. Out at sea. Gathering power. Showering debris onto shore. After the surge of water, as high as a giantess, a flotilla of boats perch in trees, nesting like birds with broken wings. They overlook the bloated and broken bodies of the drowned. The crushed matchstick houses are like the discarded toys of an angry and reckless child. All my friend remembers was the chilling sound of the water rushing in over his head, beyond his control. He thought he took his last breath when he let go and breathed in a lungful of water and not air. Somehow he survived. But the nightmares remain of the holiday where so much was lost, including innocence. But he knows now how precious life is. To be a father soon is a wondrous miracle that might never have been. The baby will be blessed by a brave father who has seen the other side of life and survived. They will take everything in their stride, and thrive.
