Friends

A Poem by Max
"

This poem is just a little piece about the experiences I used to have with my friends and still do—just in novel circumstances.

"

We used to share milkshakes and double-dip our fries

I remember stepping over chip bags and bean bags

To crowded and blanketed couches

We used to sing in the car and fall asleep on shoulders

And we’d be sleepy

I would wake up at your house

Now I just eat across from you outside

We sit in the grass or on lawn chairs

With hoodies and jackets

We still sing in the car, but I can’t see you mouthing the lyrics

And it’s windy

But now we just text

The last lines are full of pathos. They show the improved communications of the electronic age, but also something that has been lost. The singing in the car is not like it used to be. Time can be a b***h.
