Chapter 2

The sky was dark blue now, as I sat on the ground by the river. The sun was low in the sky, and the sound of the water hitting the rocks calmed me. The river was calm and the trees and shrubbery around me were green as if during spring, although it was only summer. I leaned back on the cold rocks and looked up to the sky. Closing my eyes as the sun’s rays hurt my pupils. A dark shade covered over my eyes as I lay there motionless.
“wake up sleeping beauty” said a deep voice. Automatically my eyes shot open and I jumped up into a fighting stance.
“you--” I whispered shocked to see the boy from before standing just feet in front of me.
“well well, well it seems we’ve met again” he said with a grin,
    I said nothing.
“aren’t you supposed to be in school or something?” he said with a slight grin
“aren’t you supposed to be terrorizing a village or something?” I said sarcastically
“hum-” he said closing his eyes and smiling “you know you come off pretty mean for a thirteen year old”
“I’m sixteen you demon” I said holding off the urge to rage at him with every strength I had.
“Well gosh, I’m just trying to be friendly. Then again I think its cute you think your so tough”,
I just stood there for a moment,  “you know” I said timidly, “if you want to see how tough I am, I’ll be glad to show you”
He laughed a little, “like I said, I like ’em feisty”
“don’t try to flatter me demon boy, your no match for me” I said wiping out my sword,
“didn’t we already go through this?” he said as he moved closer, and touched the tip of my steel sword, “if you really wanted to slay me, you would have don’t it already. Am I right?”
I stood still. He gently moved my sword down, and grabbed my hand as it laid on the handle of the placid sword. He moved close to me, his head just inches over my own.
“Not all demons are bad. Just to you hunters it seems so--when was the last time you cried?”
“why are you asking me that?” I said caught off guard
“just answer the question, when did you cry last?”
“I don’t, I haven’t since--” I stopped before I went to far, “its none of your business when I last cried. I don’t cry.”
“well you see. There for you are a demon.”
“your insane!” I shouted to him, looking up
He paused before saying, “demons don’t cry”
“so--that has nothing to do wi--” I stopped, as he grabbed my face, “what are you--” I said not being able to finish before he kissed me. I pushed him away as hard as I could and he staggered back, “what’s wrong with you! Demon!”
    “Emrick” he said
    “what?”
    “My name is Emrick”
I lifted my sword to his neck, “like I care--I wont know you long enough to remember”
“well that doesn’t seem fair” he said moving closer to me as my sword pierced his neck and blood splayed out. “I thought we where getting along fine”  he said with a grin
“then you need to find yourself a dictionary, because your definition of fine is immeasurably different from mine”
“Well, I guess I’ll just go find one” and he vanished. Standing still I glanced to my sword to see the blood from Emrick’s neck was still there, lingering on the tip, and slowly sliding down. I wiped the blade on the bottom of my shoe and spun it around making it go back into my Detentur Xabla.
I started walking back to the school house, the sun was low in the sky and it was getting dark so I estimated it to be around six o’clock. I got back to the castle like school and made my way up to my dorm. I sudden pain grew in my right arm as I looked to see a man grasping it.
“What” I said attempting to yank free and not succeeding “are you doing”. He grabbed my face and slammed it into the wall, I felt my hair start to tuft as blood ran down my neck.
“Lexie Nash” said the man in a voice that cut like a knife, and was almost robotic. I couldn’t say anything, the force his hand was placing on my mouth was so intense I could hardly breath. “history has a way of repeating itself. Don’t follow out in your mission or all you will find is the cold truth” the man said in his robotic voice, and released his grip on my face. I tried to stand ready for battle but got light headed and fell hard to the floor. My eyes flickered as I saw the man reach for his pocket and pull out a small object, then I blacked out.
