Magrathea Awakes, Smiles.

Magrathea Awakes, Smiles.

A Poem by Maxwell M.
"

first piece since moving to new york. having just completed the ultimate hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

"

Oh coming down,

From these sepultures from faceless mountains.

These are quite what we had in mind.

Barreling down from mischevious hilltops,

And nightless wonder,

Oh the things they brought!

Now here,

They begin to question what they've known to be so noble.

Fret full of grace, they plummet.

To the rivers once teeming with with shades of blue,

Only to come out with bright amber, delicate and so..

Now here they stand, shaken!

But we've only brought with us what we could afford.

Will they deem us one of the terrible?

We mean no harm!

Sat silhouetted against that dark rock.

Only thinking of need.

Acting out survival, desperation.

Branching forth from tired landscapes,

We mean to bring about hope!

But we've only dreamnt about the things that shine.

Will we be judged one of the weak?

They, call out to us..

"Bring with you what you can carry.

May it only be your hope,

Maybe just your fear of the path ahead.

Leave behind things of your childhood,

This is an experiment on growth."

We've scaled but a small road.

They know not how to climb this mountain.

We're small, omnipresent, and weak.

They will learn, learn to take that bold step.

We've scaled but a country.

Where to only lead us now?

Where to only lead us now?

Will they rain out compromise?

We seek no means to an end.

Where to only lead us now?

The sixth stanza is my favorite - coming to our true nature and shedding things impurity have instilled in us - but my interpretation could be wrong. I really enjoyed this one, I don't think I've ever seen it!
-edit- okay, now I just caught the headline about being the first piece since moving to NY, and I know I've read it before..but it feels new. haha

As I read this poem I was reminded of the Romantic era in which the poets put a strong emphasis on nature and the emotions evoked by our wonderful connection with out surroundings. It was excellent writing with flawless wordchoice. I can't wait to read more
