Rain

Rain

A Story by Mayur Sadhu
"

Yesterday.... Something was happening in the Natural System... first a minor seismism and then 4 hours of non-stop downpour....

"
It was raining cats and dogs, as if a new age world war was initiated amongst the heavenly gods, which in turn, poured down the polluted water as their immortal bloods enough to make the mortals realize their mortality. The sky, which once dazzled in blue oceanic color, was now drenched in the tombs of the heavens' dead warriors. The sun, which once scorched the earth's crust, now seemed futile to construct a memoir for the broken clouds during the sudden pauses of the downpour. Instead, the black clouds showed it, who's the boss. The plants, which were forced to bow down to the savaging dictatorship of the sun, now seemed to have got a new life with the blessings of the heavenly downpour. The pond, which was on the verge of becoming a loitering place for its nearby inhabitants, was now brimming in joy to have its beloved back in its heart. The mortals, the mammals, the birds, were busy gazing at the untimely downpour, from a shade keeping their scalp dry; some, cursing the nature's gift to hinder their daily job; some, showering their blessings for the savior from the scorching photon packets; some, busy caressing their beloved partners, making up their fantasy love stories; some, busy playing in the water puddles on the bitumen roads, and some, like me, was awaiting for the downpour to pause for a moment, for I had some assignments pending in the college.
"O God! Have some mercy. Pause till I reach my college.", I pleaded, gazing at the untimely deluge from the window.
Sudden streaks of sheer lightening, proved time to time, light travels faster than sound, freaking out the petite birds. The sudden inclination of the downpour wet their smooth fur coat, which was meant to please the humans' eyes.
It was the month of August, not a written-rainy season, but it seems something was going wrong inside the natural systems. Damn, this global warming! The road, which was meant to be bruised by the hot vehicle tyres, was now transformed into miniature ponds, credits going to the clean sewage of our locality.
After a wait of half an hour, I sprang up from my position, to let myself slip into my raincoat, for the rain seemed to have become faint with time. I hopped onto my bike, and vroomed my way to my college. The roads, which were familiar to my encephalon, were now an unknown puzzle to read, with water straying everywhere. The bumps, the dumps of roads were hard to make out for the roads were filled up with water. It seemed as if a portion of the Pacific Ocean had seeped into our town. The full-pants, the stud-jeans of hoi poi were transformed into half-pants, three-quarters for the ease of walking through the water. Who says water is scare, when we have water everywhere. The bikes which are meant to speed through the narrow corners of the road scaring out the strollers were now transformed into small motor-boats crossing the water-drenched roads. The rain seemed to dance in ecstasy, pausing now and again pouring down then, seeing the mortals' plight on the earth, for it was their time to payback for our act of throwing out the wastes on them. The sudden outburst of cloud-ic screams showcased their horrendous laugh.
My bike, a mere 100 cc one but forced to behave as a 1000 cc one, cut the seeped in water, splashing the elixir of life here and there to make its way through it. The raincoat which was worn to guard my body from getting drenched couldn't protect against such a nature's fury. I could feel the coldness of water creeping inside my body. Somehow, though my dress completely drenched in rain, my hairs with a new style for the heavenly additives, I swam across the newly-created Pacific Ocean, to reach my college. I was already thirty minutes late for the class.
"It’s raining outside. I think sir will mercy me for my drenched condition.", I thought, and sped up to my class.
"May I come in.", I said feebly, peeping through the loosely-closed door.
Sir, looked at me with eyes popping out of their sockets, and bursted furiously, "no, you are late. Get out!"
I stood there, for a moment, thinking what to do - hang in there and wait till sir's mercy, or walk out straight away saving my dignity. I then realized my dignity was more close to my heart than his mercy, and walked out banging the door hard.
"A*****e, can't he see my conditions.", I said, and walked down the stairs, to get hold of the lab assistant for my submissions.

Certainly rain is experienced in many more ways in the fertile minds of rich India. It would excuse the bloody Indians from charges that they can improve further their scientific studies. Nice write.
