A Story by Mayur Sadhu

It was becoming unbearable for me, to keep feelings for her in my heart. My heart was brimming with emotions to its full. I had to confront her, my feelings.
I don't know, whether she like me, or not. I had kept my feelings for her, within myself, for a long time. As time passed, it had got stronger and stronger, moulded into emotions, and projected as care, cute flirts, long duration phone calls. But for how long should I keep them to myself. She must know my feelings.
"He will propose her!", my heart persuaded me.
"No! He can't!", my brain pushed me back.
"Why?"
"I don't know!...... But what if she says no?", my brain went out of its words, trying to explain why shouldn't I propose her.
"Let's see! How can he know, she likes him or not, unless he confronts his feelings for her", my heart backed me up, with a VALID POINT.
This time, my grey matter went silent, unable to contradict my heart.

I have heard "Always listen to your heart when you are in Love." So did I. I went in the direction, my heart directed. I would propose her. I don't know what her answer will be, but I had to let her know my feelings. I confirmed.
It was my birthday. What a better day, can I get, To let her know my feelings. If she had a photon of feeling for me, she won't let me down, in my birthday. This backed me up, a little bit.
So, I searched her number, and dialed....
She: Hey birthday boy, wassup?
I: Nothing much! What about you?
She: Same here. So, when are you treating me, for your birthday?
I: Ummm..... Today.... At Cafe Coffee Day... 5:00 pm....
My conversation, was just filling up the gaps I wanted to. I had done this conversation many times in my mind, but I couldn't judge her answers. And now, she was speaking, what I wanted her to speak. My luck was on my side.
She: Okay.... Bye.....
I: Bye....
I had to plan something special for my proposal. I have heard that girls like romantic proposals. I googled for ways to propose a girl. But the results were unsatisfactory. Not unsatisfactory, but expensive. I had only 200 bucks with me. I had to find a cheap but romantic way to propose her. I thought. Thought hardly, but didn't came up with any. I gave up.
I reached CCD, and saw she was waiting for me. She was looking stunning with white top, and blue skin fit denims. A perfect eye catcher, a perfect model, with accident prone curves. I was ecstatic and remorsed. Both at the same time. Ecstatic coz she came her, and was looking stunning; and remorsed coz I hadn't came up with any ideas. I went near her, and we both sat down.
"You sit here.... I'll get the orders!", I said, and left her before she could say anything.
"Two cold coffees!", I ordered.
I searched here and there. My eyes went frantically here and there, and was strucked at an advertisement. The CCD s have the game of scrabble, to let their customers play, while their orders are prepared.
"Ummm... Can I have the scrabble?", I asked the lady at the order place.
"Sure sir!", she said.
I had something in my mind. That scrabble had excited my brain cells. I didn't knew whether this could settle in the way I wanted, but I had to take the chance.
She gave me the board, and the alphabets. I kept the E, Y, O,L, O,U, V, I in my fist and went to our table. She was playing with her mobile.
"Let's play a game!", I said, and put down the scrabble board.
"Oh! I love this game!", she was ecstatic.
"But, here you can only make phrases, instead of words!", I said.
"Ummm.... Okay! So where are the alphabets?", she asked. I opened my fist.
"This much! Where are the others?", she asked, when she saw only those alphabets.
"You start on.... The rest are in my bag!", I lied, and bent down, to pretend as if I was searching. I took out, the O, T, O from my shirt pocket.
I went back to my previous posture. She had made a phrase. I couldn't believe what I saw. My intuition had hit the bull's eye. I was on the seventh heaven, my heart beat paced up. I pinched myself, to check whether I was in a dream, or not. I wasn't. I was in the reality.
"Done! You chance!", she said. She didn't understood what she had made, but that was what I wanted.
She made I LOVE YOU from those alphabets.
"YEAH! HE HAD MADE HER PROPOSE HIM!", my heart shouted.
My preliminary task was done with perfection. I had made it. But I had made her understand what she actually wrote, and what it actually meant to me.
I took out those three alphabets and arranged to TOO. The scrabble board was shinning with the phrase I LOVE YOU TOO.
She was numb. Her facial expressions changed. She had understood, what I wanted to convey. But I was ecstatic, coz I had made it to the top.
An eerie silence prevailed between us. None of us, initiated the faded conversation. Finally, our order came up.
"Sir, you have left these alphabets there only!", The waiter said, to break the silence, and placed the remaining alphabets on the table.
I couldn't speak anything.
"No need of these alphabets. We have finished our game!", she said.
I was flattered. What she wanted to say? Have I irked her? Will she leave me there alone? An array of questions rushed in my mind. Time seemed to have slowed down, and everything came to an halt. I was numb. I just didn't knew what to say, when she spoke up.
"I love you too!", she said.

Love on the scrabble board takes a curious handling of a person who may not be physically there but you love her nevertheless. She on the other hand goes on in another part of the world like she knows all about that. And sometimes she does.

Interesting what went on in her mind before she said that. A good write. Keep penning!

a guy in dilemma,a logical brain , a lovesick heart , a game of scrabble & a happy ending. All this could lead only to a golden err.. love pot at the end of a rainbow . Well done!

Scabble is awesome, and i love the debate between the brain and the heart. It was very funny with the awkward silence at the end. I can really imagine that =)
