Bus Station Contemplation

Bus Station Contemplation

A Poem by Mat Woodward
"

People, places, hearts journey, smiling faces

"

Sitting at the bus station, watching life lived out

People happy, worried and uncertain

Finding no rest in material’s curtain

An old lady walks by with shopping cart behind

The look of life’s distance in her eyes

Where has she been? Many sights seen…

The highlight of her journey?

The last time she cried…

Young dude on a skatie

Carves the pavement with style

A policeman chasing him

Catch a real criminal…not a juvenile!

A young mum sips coffee, her children eat chips

Does she have a husband…

Is she another statistic?

Fathers where are you? Little boy’s eyes declare

I need a role model, does anyone care?

Bus driver arrives…a thousand and one times

His countenance showing he’s over the grind

I enter the coach showing my pass

Life’s not exciting, his countenance shows

Change direction bus driver sir

Learn something new and you may meet her…

Fifteen years on the same route,

It’s time to put on a parachute…

A great "observation" poem. Good imagery! Barbara

Hah!!! Just imagining the bus driver with a parachute...ready to jump! He wouldn't have far to fall...I understand completely what you are saying and it is very true. Helen Keller said; Life is nothing without a bold adventure...
You have great observation skills Mat, the woman and her children, the kid on his skateboard and the Police not having anything better to occupy their time.
Where are the fathers indeed!!!
Well-penned piece...thought provoking.

When my mom first had me, we didn't have a car. I have many memories of taking the bus to the food bank and back. Other places too. This in a nice poem.

"Change direction bus driver sir
Learn something new and you may meet her''

This line has a nice meaning to it too!

Mat, this brings back a little nostalgia for me, as I used to be a people watcher, but at that time, things were much different then now, I would sit and wonder and ask questions to myself about those I observed, as you do, I read a certain sadness in your thoughts, they are deep thoughts with not much hope attached, for the people you see, not the case when I was your age, there certainly was not all this doom and gloom we see in the world today. I will tell you the same as I have told my own Son, you can do one of two things, get up and act on those things you see and dislike, or you can just keep watching. thanks for sending this on to me.
Tony
