Bus Station ContemplationA Poem by Mat WoodwardPeople, places, hearts journey, smiling facesSitting at the bus station, watching life lived out People happy, worried and uncertain Finding no rest in material’s curtain An old lady walks by with shopping cart behind The look of life’s distance in her eyes Where has she been? Many sights seen… The highlight of her journey? The last time she cried… Young dude on a skatie Carves the pavement with style A policeman chasing him Catch a real criminal…not a juvenile! A young mum sips coffee, her children eat chips Does she have a husband… Is she another statistic? Fathers where are you? Little boy’s eyes declare I need a role model, does anyone care? Bus driver arrives…a thousand and one times His countenance showing he’s over the grind I enter the coach showing my pass Life’s not exciting, his countenance shows Change direction bus driver sir Learn something new and you may meet her… Fifteen years on the same route, It’s time to put on a parachute…
