Someone To Call A Friend

Someone To Call A Friend

A Poem by Mat Woodward
"

Lyrics for real Souls.

"

Someone To Call A Friend

A stranger in a strange world
What’s in your heart, do you feel your being heard
A listening ear an understanding soul, a friend to care

No thought of control

Another number another train
Just existing your blending in
Thoughts of success flood your inner core
Believing subtle lies you shut the door

Does anybody want to listen to me?
It’s the me inside, not the masquerade that you see
So I can open my heart and show you who I am

All my dreams and desires, the grief and the pain
Someone to call a friend

UNIVERSAL SUBJECT MATTER THAT WE CAN ALL IDENTIFY WITH. HAVING JUST ONE FRIEND THAT YOU CAN BE YOURSELF WITH , NO MASQUERADING, IS SUCH A BLESSING IN THESE TIMES.
GOOD POEM! bARBARA

This is a really strong piece. A friend is all anyone really wants and this will reach out and speak to virtually all people. I think we've all been there.

Hey M8,
just observing... just sneaking my nose round the fridge like my cat Wilbur there...

What's in your heart(?) Do you feel your being heard(?) (one question or two?)
A listening ear (,) an understanding soul, (:) a friend to care
Another number another train (I feel there's a natural pause here? maybe a dash would clarify?)
Just existing your blending in (you're ?)
It's the me inside, not the masquerade that you see ( is 'that' necessary? does it flow better without?)
All my dreams and desires, the grief and the pain (all my dream and all my desires could put 'the grief and the pain' onto another line in effect slowing the piece to its conclusion...

hey, I don't usually do poetry,
but I spent some time on James's stuff the other night and enjoyed it!
maybe I've got a lot to learn... and then some!

I think a good friend is difficult to find, 'control' issues will destroy friendship, which should be a two way stretch, but rarely is. You have made a plea here for someone to hear the real you. A touching song which I have been fortunate enough to hear. I hope you can get the playlist of your own music happening Mat as you are a superb musician.

A sweet honest cry for "connect." Nothing is so appealing as somebody opening up to be vulnerable. This is a lovely write, I enjoyed the place of inner sanctity that it took me to.

"It's the me inside, not the masquerade that you see
So I can open my heart and show you who I am"

This line is very touching. I known alot of people who are afriad of being who they are, and are afraid of being juged. I have been judged and know alot of people who will and have judged me for the simple thing i have done, that i am not ashamed of. I am glad you shared this piece. I hope others will read it and think twice before judging people, and taking them for granted.

Mat, this is a place we have all been-Feeling like a stranger, just existing, wanting to believe for success and yet discouragement snuffing the life out of thoughts like that. Then that one comes along that is willing to listen-that one we feel we can be open with...and it is there that we discover true friendship. That person that we can be perfectly honest with without the fear of judgment and the fear of rejection. I am sure the song is lovely. :-)
