The Exigence of MeA Poem by Matt Hargenrader*Insert clever description*When you look into
the mirror, what do you see? A mere reflection? When you feel
larger than life on the outside, Do your insides
suggest otherwise? When you think you’ve
found your missing half and she leaves, Then, what do you
believe?
Life’s quite
funny; a Shakespearean comedy. It’s a play on
your life, you’re the butt of the joke. You are
characterized by your moronity. You fail time
after time so methodically. Ironically, you
have it worse, you proudly boast. We feel our own
perspective is what matters most.
When your back’s
against the wall with the game on the line, Do you always come
up short? Do you build walls
to hide your insecurities? Is this what shields
your purity? Have you ever
drowned your sorrows, drink after drink? We foolishly
displace our pain so wrong, I think.
My psyche is an
enigma like no other. My thoughts racing
every second of every day. Pain and sorrow
are bottled and safely covered. The truth’s buried
far too deep to be discovered. Those whom are
closest to me, I call them my friends. Yet, nobody knows
if they’ll be there in the end.
Do you ever feel
at home, yet you’re all alone? Do you want to
change, yet you only stay the same? Do you ever feel
the urge to cry, yet your smile lies? Do you ever wish
you didn’t exist because it’s hard to find the exigence?
My heart and mind
are at war; my body in disorder. Empathy is the
culprit of my demise. I hold mine and
others’ burdens on my shoulders. The added weight
drags me down as I grow older. I didn’t choose
who I am, but I’ll never change. I am proud to be
me, and for this I am sane. © 2016 Matt HargenraderReviews
