Around the Town

Around the Town

A Poem by Matthew McDonald

My first love was you

And so we saw it through

But alas we never did

And nothing came of it

And I enjoy your presence

Though through all of this

I’ve never stopped

To say hello

What makes you stronger than me?

Is it true that we’ve seen each other?

Have we seen one another on the street?

Or has it merely been a dream?

Well let me tell you

I’m in love with you

And I don’t see you every day

Though our destinies are fixed.

I would rather see you every day than not.

But if the situation doesn’t allow for it

I’d settle with something else

Though I’d really rather just see you all of the time.

Is it always true that this is me?

How do I escape?

Can I escape through natural means?

I just don’t know.

I enjoy your patience

But sometime we’ll have to meet

I guess we’ll meet sometime

In the future.

I’m not sure if it will be grand

But I’ll at least hold your hand

And we’ll at least do some of the things

Around the town

We’ll go

Around the town

Around the city

And live to tell of it.
