the attic

the attic

A Story by mattmatt5161

I walked up the stairs, it was dark the light didn’t work. Each step on one of those dark, dingy steps led to a horrible squeaking noise, the same noise as an unsuspecting cat makes when you tread on its tail. Shadows leered at me menacingly. They appeared to be moving tricking my mind, freaking me out.

I reached the attic. Here the shadows became scarier than I could possibly have imagined. I took a golf club and stood in the corner, cowering like a boy being bullied. I closed my eyes. I pretended I was a brave strong hero, like a super hero, I pretended I laughed in the face of danger and I scaled mountains. Surely an adventurous heroic man like a super hero couldn’t be scared of a little attic.

I then opened my eyes, I realised, I wasn’t brave, I wasn’t fearless, and I was a scared little boy desperately wanting to leave this frightening, alarming place.  I began to try and escape, I couldn’t see, it was pitch black and I was lost. There were no torches, no light what so ever. I was well and truly stuck.

I began to shout hoping against hope that my half deaf mum could hear me, I squealed and I cried, like a lost child at the airport. I then lent back and accidently pressed a crying doll sound on. I jumped; I jumped almost 6 foot in the air. I landed in the Christmas decoration box, I put one foot down and yelped, I had stuck my foot right one of the points of the stars; I fell and twisted my ankle.

I had never been in such agony. The point sent a shivering sensation up my spine, the only way out was to crawl. I felt my way to the wall and found the exit. I had never felt so much relief in my life it was like being released from prison. I got down the stairs and got my mum; she nursed my ankle and fixed the light. I then went back up to see inside the attic, I turned the light on to find out what the objects that were terrifying me were. It turns out they were just old stuffed toys.

I felt really foolish, when I found out what they were. However when the sun goes down and the only light is projected from the moon everything feels a lot scarier. Perhaps that is why all horror stories are based at night because that is when the monsters come out and the horror begins!
