Tree of Woe (1-800-273-8255)

Tree of Woe (1-800-273-8255)

A Poem by Matthew Kult
"

Depression

"
I've been all alone.
Have nothing to show.
Nothing to call my own.
Just hanging from the tree of woe.

Nothing to show,
Nothing my own,
All alone,
On the tree of woe.

Trapped in my head.
Barely able to get out of bed.
Why does life have to be hard?
Nobody understands, or just disregard.

So I hide my tears,
My fears.
Want my existence ended.
Is this what was intended?

Nothing to show,
Nothing my own,
All alone,
On the tree of woe.

I won't be missed.
So why exist?
Those thoughts persist.
No reason to resist.

I want to die.
No longer cry.
Stop living a lie.
I, just, want, to die.

I've been all alone.
Have nothing to show.
Nothing to call my own.
Just hanging off the tree of woe.

Every day I force a reason why.
Why I shouldn't die,
And get by.
Continuing to try.

Try to survive,
Try to be alive.
Try to see tomorrow.
Try not to drown in sorrow.

You have described the depressive mind quite accurately in this poem. Sometimes life just gets too hard and weighs heavily on our shoulders and it seems that we just wander from one woe to another with bad luck becoming our shadow. It takes a monumental effort to overcome such thoughts but life is too precious to just throw away regardless of our woes. The repetition used reinforces the desperation of the feelings felt. Well portrayed.

Depression is very real, and not something that someone can just snap out of. So many people don't understand that it is real, and it can be debilitating. Your poem is an accurate depiction of what depression can be like for those who suffer, and the feelings of hopelessness that accompany it. nicely done

An excellent description of the reality of depression, the internal torture of endless "whys" and the struggle -hopefully always triumphant - to sink the claws of our inner self, into the fabric of hope itself, refusing to let go Well done.

There's such a Johnny Cash vibe to it. I've sung it rather than read. With acoustic guitar in the background and all. Love it

This is the type if poem that is worth experimenting with, like how many time and where to use the repeated stanza. A great choice of subject.

This I empathise completely with. Excellent poem. Dealing with the black dog and hanging from the tree is hard, very hard.

Excellent writing skills with unique selection of words to express depression in your own way all alone. I enjoyed going through this poem.

I can relate to all of that; we must survive and win the battle even in small steps. Keep writing and purging as I did.
An excellent poem on this subject.

Depression is so isolating in its darkness. I felt that in these stanzas Matthew. Such a struggle with the day to day. No future. The repetition works so well here. All the best to you.
