Post-Birthday Blues

The following is the last entry in the journal of the illustrious sorcerer, Waldrin Apponix the Monkey Hand, written on his 25,188th day.

Today was most marvelous, far sweeter than the delights of yestereve, and sure to tickle my mood in memory come winter; for I have finally bested the pompous pig, Elstrup, and I did so with ferocious ease. I found and faced the fool atop his own sturdy tower, amidst the cracking gale of one of our mid-summer storms. He quivered there, within his circle of flimsy wards, drenched in impotence, as I bent him, desiccating his summoned imps and abominations, and stymieing his evocations with the mere power of my staff. Then, slowly, so we could both savor it, I raised my dingus hand toward the tempest above us and called down a fork of the most violent lightning. It popped Elstrup like a fat bug on a hot brazier; truly a most marvelous day.     So, he is off the invite list for next birthday, and won’t be souring the event by gifting yet another mocking bouquet of bananas, though they were tasty. Additionally, I found an oddity in the former Elstrup’s library, an ancient tome written in a language that I’ve never seen. I’m most intrigued, as it was penned in unicorn blood and contains some most horrifying illustrations, so I’ve set my apprentice to deciphering it. Tomorrow looks to be mundane, but it precedes the new moon, the power of which I will use to dispatch the swamp witch, Sleoquit.  That hag won’t be dragging her muddy feet across my polished floors again. I will miss her banquet mead. Anyway, it’s great that I keep finding these excuses to get out.

This is a story that is a delight to read. It wax poetic of a great war of wizards, all be it based on one man's perspective. I'm sure Elstrup may have seen it differently though only the Dark Gods of socery may know.. Well done and well painted a battle indeed.
