Dinner With The Sun

Dinner With The Sun

A Story by mattavelli

There once was a monster who met a mouse
and they became great friends.
They would race and chase and dance around
and sometimes play pretend.

The monster, she would share her dreams.
The mouse would share his too.
So one day, when the pond dried up,
they knew what they should do.

They packed a breakfast and a lunch
and got ready to run;
thinking if they did their best,
they'd have dinner with the sun.

I love this mouse and beast tale. It has a bit of a child-like wonder to it

You are most welcome
This is a wonderful story told in whimsical rhyme. If I had a child I would be reading this short tale because of the message of friendship it conveys is timeless. Well done my friend.

Thanks for reading, Carlos! :)
Cute poem mattavelli. I see this in a children's book with illustrations. Nicely rhyming stanzas and the lines flow well.

Thank you, Carol! :)
You've delighted me.
I suppose the monster and the mouse got burned, but this reader definitely did not. Not only is it delightful and playful, but it also has a killer title.

Matt, I'm not sure exactly what to say about this one (??). I know from reading so many of your writes that you don't employ rhyme all of the time, often opting for free verse instead. But this rhyme scheme is so well constructed...the pace, the meter, the rhythm...that reading it almost feels as if I'm dancing through the piece as I read. And the story? So endearing it should be in a children's book. In fact I am copy/pasting this one to a Word document and printing it out to read to my grandson when he's old enough to appreciate the characters and rhyme scheme (he just turned three, I don't think he'd fully appreciate it yet). EXTREMELY well done! take care...dan
