My Anchor

My Anchor

A Poem by mattavelli
"

Villanelle

"

Without your love to guide me on my way
and help to straighten thoughts when they are bent,
I'd fall into a life of disarray.

My history reads, fancy dreams and play;
a thoughtless wander, stumbling as I went,
without your love to guide me on my way.

No focused motivation, meant halfway
to destinations, lost, to my lament,
I'd fall into a life of disarray.

I can't imagine where I'd be today,
had life continued paving my descent,
without your love to guide me on my way.

And as I age into my mind's decay,
there'd be no hope to shroud the discontent.
I'd fall into a life of disarray.

So know you are my home. I'll never stray.
For even if I left with your consent;
without your love to guide me on my way,
I'd fall into a life of disarray.

Never has cheese brain grating been so anchored! There's a reason why Villanelles are admired the way that they are: they give the brain pleasure.

Thanks, Roland. Where is your sonnet?

I've posted my Italian sonnet; I don't think I have an English one in me.
I thought the repetitions were really good and contributed a lot towards making it an amazing poem.
'As i age into my mind's decay...', that stanza was my fav. Thanks for sharing ☺

Thanks for the feedback, Kshitij. :)
A little repetitive perhaps, but not like a cheese grater. I think its fine, I like it!! Or maybe just change the rhyme pattern a little on your last stanza, but the message is good!

wander to wanderer second stanza second line. I really like this, but of course a love poem or story and I am there. Beautiful words and the feelings came through with your excellent choice of words. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Willard. The repetition wasn't too much?
