One more day

One more day

A Poem by Freedom's Child

Blood coated eyes
Craving minutes of peace
Quivering lips
With forgotten memories of smiles
Rusted shut joints
Yearning for one last stroll in the park
Muted larynx
Wishing one last I love you

As last moments pass
Reflections of wasted days encumber my every thought
My childhood memories only remind me
Of what I could have been
If it wasn't too late
If I had just an ounce of strength
Maybe I could finish with a speck of dignity
Maybe I do have one more...

Great write, I especially enjoyed the first verse and the conclusion of the second. I read your poem a few times and the first verse is descriptive enough to guide an image, and open enough to allow the reader to fill in the colors. I saw a different soul at each reading. Thanks.
