the rainbow that diedA Poem by Matome MasipaReminscing 1999
Once as a child There was a spring where I saw a rainbow die
I was too young to know what I perceived was a lie. In my mind It was a sign mother nature was losing her smile Deep down inside I knew her sorrow would not dry, Deep down inside I knew her face covered with clouds could not hold her tears even if they try. Drowning my day as she cries. The silence of sunshine and the smell of rain coming filled the air, Above cottage roof tops and across sunflower fields flew passing butterflies, Quietly i stood there. Appearing as Little colors of cotton in the distance passing before my curious big eyes. They looked stress free flying towards the sun in the fading skies. Ever since that day the rainbow never came back, Still on a hill I wait near the old shack. Waiting, under the sun in the grass I laid with the hope I lied, Waiting; At the place where I once saw the rainbow that died. © 2016 Matome MasipaFeatured Review
