April Fools

April Fools

A Poem by mathiasthom

These April fools
who wallow away
the other eleven months,
just as shallow as always

Never to find a single instance of honesty
not wrapped up in insecurities
Looking for a simple purity
that shriveled up and died
on some foreign shore...

This sand is an abrasion
to the latest declaration,
some bloated sensation
left beached on the floor...

Wearing religions, like faux-fur coats
throwing them off,
as it constricts privileged throats
Trying to save face,
like some inopportune buyer,
pleading ignorance, like a pathetic whiner ...
