Dreaming

Dreaming

A Poem by mathiasthom
"

internal rhyme poem challenge...

"

Snoring at the foot of an unmade bed
a furry hide concealed by disheveled blankets
Sleeping and sporadically weeping in uneasy slumber

What environments unspoken, or tokens of familiarity
causes this animal to pace in dreams?
Its muscled legs, proud tendons,
pacing,racing towards destinations unknown,
Past the wild fields, to the distant horizon

Scurrying beasts, impromptu feasts beneath the burrows
padded paws silently roam the woodlands,
Stalking rabbits diligently,following its scent

Overhead, in the canopy treetops
feathers gently discharge to the ground,
descending in a never ending dance on air

In the thick, a momentary flick of a tail
a beast is trapped, perhaps for just a moment
Quicker than a heartbeat, a fury of paws and limbs
pouncing on its victim, announcing a blood curdling cry
vengeful slashes, crashes, it hits the floor, rudely awakened...
