Chemicals

Chemicals

A Poem by mathiasthom

I will use the chemicals
sparingly, willingly
sending a tingle down this spine
into feelings so divine

Now I feel like a god
or at least in control of myself
never asking for anyone's help
not showing concern for my well being

I will outwardly smile
when I'm consumed by hate
trying to change these mood swings
in a plastic world so fake

Seeing the color black
within a world weighed so heavily
on this bending back
not ever falling for this line of crap

Taking these chemicals
saturated in our food and drink
synthetic yearnings for maelstrom turnings
no time to stop and think

While I slowly sink below the horizon line
yes, I am literally quite fine
cast adrift from maddening mankind
toward some place civilized
