Emma

Emma

A Poem by Mason Lipman

You are the dark side of me,

Painted black and blue

The bad things behind you,

Will never set you free

What are you paying for?

Where did it come from?

Is this the life you chose to live?

The one that you strove for?

You rot in your chains

As the rest of us do

But you can be free

Only you will refuse

You are my twin sister,

My enemy brood

My failure to destroy you

Was undeniably rude

You came down upon me,

With thunder and guns

And their roaring applause

Had you thinking you’d won

I knew the truth,

The ultimatum was mine

And out of my ashes

Grew a lonely red rose

In your eyes you were angry

In your mind there was hate

But I again knew the truth:

That your revenge was too late.

In your cell you’re alone,

As I am always

But you know that I love you

In a thousand different ways…
