Escapology

Escapology

A Poem by Benjamin Seymour

I’m hiding from you.
If I close my eyes
Screw them up so tight
That even light would be hard pressed
To filter through
You cannot see me
Can you?

I’m hiding from you.
If I run away
As far as I can
Before the dusk of night
Until the moon arrives
You cannot catch me
Can you?

I’m hiding from you
If I stay silent
Let not a peep
Or even a broken note
Escape these pierced lips
You can’t hear me
Can you?

Of course you can
You can hear those laboured breaths
You can follow my footsteps along this beach
You can find me as I stand with my eyes wide shut

Sometimes, you are not supposed to escape

Can I be "you" in this poem?

Seriously, your words are just perfectly laced with mystery. It's amazing Ben. Keep up the good work.

I love the repetition of "Can you?" at the conclusion of each stanza - it ties everything together qutie nicely. And the last line is pretty provocative: "sometimes, you are not supposed to escape." Excellent.

One question, though: why "pierced" lips in the third stanza? It seems a little out-of-place to me (at the moment, anyway).
