Chapter Fifteen

“Ana?” Jacob asked walking into our room in the morning a few weeks later, he’d called me every day since he’d left but had never explained why he couldn’t come home.

“I didn’t feel like going to school.” I whispered but truthfully I felt bad. “Hey Jake?” I whispered as he crawled up into bed with me.

“Yes?” he smiled kissing me softly.

“Why were you gone so long? You’d said it would be just a day.”

“The job took longer than I expected.” He whispered kissing me softly once more.

“I love you.” I promised but he got up. “Where are you going?”

“The station to get my bags.” He laughed picking me up and into his arms, “I’d tell you to come with me but you need rest.”

“You always think I need rest.”

“Because you always do.” He laughed again but put me back into the bed. “I’ll be home before too long.” He promised and I watched him leave. I listened for his car to leave and then I went over to the house.

When I got home that night I had to pretty much crawl into the house. “Jacob!” Elliot called seeing me and suddenly Jacob had me in his arms and he was carrying me upstairs.

“Do you just choose to risk your life when I’m home?” Jacob questioned and I frowned but just kept my head in his chest. I turned into him when he laid me in the bed and just let myself fall asleep.

“Bell… the spell wasn’t made to be used as much as you have been. I was thinking maybe once a month not everyday for two. It made you sick.” Pearl whispered when I woke up and I looked around to find us alone.

“Jacob won’t have to find out which spell it was will he?” I whispered.

“He already knows. He followed me to the house and… I didn’t know he was there so I just undid all the spells so you wouldn’t be tempted… he hasn’t said anything about it though.” I nodded nervously and she left. “She should feel better soon.” I heard her tell somebody but then Jacob came in with his ‘we need to talk’ face.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered.

“You’ve been…” he trailed off and I realized that he couldn’t believe what I’d been doing.

“Pearl made it where all of my fantasies came true…” I trailed off blushing.

“I’d much rather you talk to me about these things instead of just going behind my back to…” he seemed lost for words.

“Jake…” I whispered reaching for him but when he moved to sit by me I just sighed realizing I couldn’t hurt him like that.

“Why haven’t you talked to me about it?” he asked painfully.

“It will hurt you.” I shook my head.

“No more than this…” he gestured to me, “… is hurting me.”

“You aren’t ever home long enough for me to talk to you… about anything. You always have to run after a few kisses and an ‘I miss you’… I don’t ever even get a quick ‘love you too’ anymore.” I frowned but the pain on his face was worse and I quickly leaned into him. “I know it’s your job… it’s just hard. I miss you when you’re gone and I miss you when you’re here.” I tried unsuccessfully to make him feel better.

“I’ll stay home more often.” He promised, “I’ll always do what you need me to.”

“What about the special team you’re on with the station?”

“I’ll have Elliot take my spot.” He started to kiss me but I yawned and he just pulled away moving me down deeper into the bed. “The more you sleep the better you will feel.” He promised.

“Will you still be here when I wake up?” I whispered and he nodded.

“I’ll be right here.” He promised rubbing my back and so I closed my eyes.

“Jake?!” I yelled when I woke up he came running but I saw his blood in his hands and knew what he’d gone for.

“I thought I’d be back before you woke up.” He promised kissing me softly. I pulled him right back when he pulled away and kept kissing him, “Not today.” He whispered softly kissing my forehead.

“When?”

“When you’re better.” He promised and I sighed before just moving so that I was laying on him.

“Aren’t you going to be late for work?” I whispered looking at the clock a few days later. I still wasn’t allowed out of bed and I was driving everybody insane right along with me.

“I’m not going in today.” He shrugged, “Elliot started his new job today.”

“You mean…” I trailed off.

“It’s my first of many days off.” He nodded and I smiled kissing him happily.

“Have I told you lately that I love you?” I asked and he smiled at me.

“I don’t think you have.” He whispered in my ear and I shivered eagerly as I tightened my hold on him.

“Am I well now?” I asked him after and he chuckled kissing me again softly.

“You have no idea how well you are.” I blushed brightly at his words and just put my head in his chest.

“That was so much better than any fantasy I’ve ever had.” I promised him with another kiss.

“I’m glad.” He smiled tightening his hold. “Can we stay away from fantasies now?”

“I don’t know…” I shrugged, “I might have a few left to play with.” I smiled kissing him and he smiled.

“Well as long as you only play with me.” He promised and I giggled again completely happy for the first time in a long time.
