Chapter Seven

“Jake?” I asked softly into a dark room.

“He went to the station.” Lexi whispered coming in but she flipped the lights on when she saw my tears. “I can…”

“No I don’t want to bother him.” I shook my head and just rolled over into the pillows to find Tyler on my other side.

“I’ve got this, Lexi. She’s my pack member.”

“I’m not wolf.” I whispered as he moved to hold me.

“I know but I will protect you from even yourself.” He promised.

“You haven’t for weeks.” I snapped angrily pulling away and suddenly the room was full. “You let people pretend to be me! You let me get hit and yelled at and forced into things that I’d never done before!! None of you saved ME!!!!!!” I felt Jacob’s arms holding me tight and I just turned in them and stuck my face tightly in his chest as my tears fell.

“Call me next time.” He warned Lexi and I looked up at him.

“Be nice.” I warned and he simply nodded even though we all knew he wasn’t agreeing he was simply placating me. “I’m serious, Jake. Be nice or I’ll go…” I trailed off not sure where else I could go.

“You could visit your father for a little bit.” Jacob promised me but I saw in his eyes that he wanted me farther away from Ilia and Shia than I already was.

“No…” I shook my head leaning back into his chest.

“Okay… well you need…”

“I’ve slept two days now.” I warned him.

“And you’ll still be sleeping when I get all of them out of here.” He informed me and I shook my head.

“Bet I don’t.”

“Bet you do.” I sighed knowing that he would just make me do what he wanted.

“Do I get to go to school tomorrow if I do?” I requested.

“Yes I’ll let you go.” He promised and I smiled.

“Good it’s time for me to join the town.”

“I’ve gotten a job at your school as a janitor. It’s behind the scenes but…”

“I’d rather you be a student than a janitor.” I requested knowing I couldn’t get him to agree to trust everybody to watch after me during school when I didn’t even trust them or myself.

“I’ll see what I can do.” He smiled before pulling me in closer.

“Hey Jake?” I asked with a yawn.

“One question and then sleep?” he compromised and I nodded.

“What was Lexi talking about when you brought me home? Something about me having werewolf traits?”

“She thinks that we’ve imprinted. Werewolves can’t imprint on vampires though. Our bites kill each other and therefore…”

“It’d be suicide to imprint.” I nodded having seen a few imprint fights.

“What he’s neglecting to tell you is that we don’t know how humans imprint. Since you aren’t actually a werewolf…” Elliot trailed off at Jacob’s snarl.

“Jake.” I said simply.

“I’m not a ‘good’ person, Ana. Almost everybody here would tell you that I am being nicer than normal though.” He promised with a chuckle and I pulled away fear rising in my stomach.

“I’m going to go sleep in my room.” I whispered knowing that only Elliot’s presence was keeping me from having to explain my sudden fear.

“Bell?” Lexi asked curiously.

“I wanted to sleep in here.” I repeated and she nodded understanding that something had happened but I wasn’t willing to talk about it. I listened to her sleep… Elliot’s murmurs while he pretended not to have Alena in his room and both of them sleep… and then after the silence got to be too much I listened to Jacob’s pacing.

“Wear these.” Lexi told me the next morning and I looked stupidly at the jeans and tight shirt. “If you’re coming to school you should hurry…” she said pointedly and I got up getting dressed as quick as I could.

“Watch her.” Elliot warned Lexi when he left us for his class.

“I have class with Pearl it will be safe.” I promised Lexi.
