A dogA Chapter by Mary GreenwellChapter
Eight “Samuel?”
I asked walking in but found him beside Andy who was passed out. “What
happened?” I asked nervously feeling the tears starting. “I
don’t know.” He admitted, “We need to get him to the hospital.” Samuel told me,
“I called for a car.” He promised and I just sat down beside Andy smoothing his
hair out of his face. “Allergic
reaction.” Dr. Owens said coming into the hospital room and I looked up. I had
no idea what had been happening but I knew that I was terrified. He still
hadn’t woken up and so I just stared at him. “What
do you mean?” I asked. “He
was allergic to the pain pills that the hospital gave him.” Dr. Owens
explained, “It was a late reaction and for some reason it is hurting him worse
than normal…” “He’s
a werewolf.” Tom said at the door. “It’s not the pills.” He promised, “It’s the
silver in his needles. Get them out.” Tom ordered and Dr. Owens removed the
needles. I moved closer to the bed but then Andy screamed. “It’s a painful
transition.” Tom told me, “He’ll get better though.” He turned to Dr. Owens,
“You need to go back in his arm and clean the silver out of it. That’s what
happened to his brother.” He looked away but I looked at him curiously. “Andy
told me he overdosed.” I whispered. “He
did.” Andy’s sister, Sarah, whispered. “He overdosed though because of the pain
of the silver. Silver won’t kill him but it’s so painful that a werewolf will
commit suicide rather than deal with the effects of it sinking into tissue.” I
flinched but moved to the sink getting a washcloth and washing arm where the
needle was. “Take
out the pins.” I begged Dr. Owens. “Is
the myth about healing true?” He asked and Tom nodded. He didn’t wait any longer
taking the sling off and quickly removing the pins and using a cotton swab to
wash out the holes before we sat back and watched it heal. It wasn’t long after
that Andy woke up. “Thank
goodness…” I whispered when he looked at me, “Are you better?” I begged and he
nodded with a small smile. “I
didn’t mean to worry you.” “You
should have told me that you were allergic to silver.” I whispered leaving it
at that since a nurse was with us. “He
told you.” He growled looking at his dad and his sister. “In
order to save you.” I warned him. “And I don’t care that you are. I just want
you.” I begged and he looked at me in surprise. “You
don’t care.” “No.”
I whispered and then I said a spell and the cover was suddenly purple. “Witch.”
He smiled and I just nodded moving up into the hospital bed with him. “Move
over here.” He smiled pulling me up into his chest. “Mr.
Williams… Mrs. Williams.” Dr. Owens smiled coming in, “Here’s the discharge.”
He explained and I just stood up watching Andy get into the wheelchair. “Let’s
go home.” He suggested and I smiled pushing him out to the car. The driver took
us straight to his house and I smiled when he pulled me out kissing me the
whole way in. “I
need you.” I whispered when he pulled away. “Then
let’s get upstairs.” He smiled picking me up and carrying me right to bed. “Andy?”
I smiled the next morning when I rolled over to find him at the dresser. “Alex…”
He sighed and moved back to the bed kissing me softly. “It’s early you should
go back to sleep.” “Not
without you.” I shook my head. “I
was going to head downstairs so that my tossing and turning didn’t keep you
up.” He frowned. “Then
I’ll go downstairs with you.” I shrugged and he frowned but moved back beside
me. I smiled slipping around him glad that he’d put on his pajama pants the
night before so that I was able to curl around him. “Hey Andy?” I whispered
quietly. “Yes?” “I
thought you said that part of the agreement with Dad was that we wouldn’t do
this?” “We
talked about it the day after the wedding.” He shrugged, “I told him that I
wasn’t going to force you in any way but that I wouldn’t chance hurting you by
refusing to act as your husband.” I smiled at that and just curled tighter.
“Are you going to go back to sleep now?” He asked but I tensed and he sat up
but saw what I had touched and quickly took the rope off the headboard. “We
won’t ever do that again.” He promised me softly and I sighed before just
sticking my head in his chest. I felt a tear fall but he did not ask knowing
that the night before was running through my head. We’d
come home but during sex when I’d accidentally touched him he’d tensed and had
stood up quickly. I had watched him grab a lead rope and then he’d tied my
hands and feet to the bed so that I could not get close to him and he controlled
what parts of him I was touching. He had gotten them undone before I had hurt
myself too bad but my ankles had been bleeding and I’d been crying by the time
he had come back into the bed with his clothes on. “I’m
really sorry Alex.” He whispered as my tears got harder. “You
scared me Andy.” I admitted and he moved away some so that he could look at me.
I had refused to talk about it last night and he’d tried to make it up to me by
using his hands and mouth to make me come and he had even tried to let me touch
him during it but when he’d pulled away with terror in his eyes I had locked up
and refused to let him even try again to make me feel better. “I’m
sorry.” He repeated. “I
never thought that even by accidentally brushing against you that you could lose
your mind.” I whispered, “I always knew that me touching you was difficult for
you but… you changed in front of my eyes Andy.” I tried to explain. “I
know and… I’m trying Alex. I’m really trying.” “I
know.” I sighed but my tears continued, “Andy…” I whispered when he kissed my
neck and he pulled away feeling my rejection. “I just can’t… not right now.” I
tried to explain and he nodded. I moved closer to him though until he flinched
and then I pulled completely away. © 2013 Mary Greenwell |
