Chapter Twelve

“Where are you going?” Cupid asked as I dressed for a funeral.

“I’m going to Mom’s funeral.” I snapped.

“Mortals wear black still.” He reminded me looking at the simple white dress I’d created.

“I’m not mortal though.” I shook my head, “Bryn’s coming too.”

“That explains why everything within two hundred miles is getting wet despite Rain God’s best efforts.” He kissed me softly. “Do you want me to come?” I nodded slowly watching as his white suit appeared on him. When the four of us, Adonis had come too, walked into the temple it was silent.

“Mom! Dad!” Surya ran to us and I wrapped him in my arms seeing his pain. “You can’t talk can you?” He realized and Cupid shook his head.

“That’s your Aunt Bryn.” I whispered to where only he could hear.

“Aunt Bryn.” He smiled moving to her and two pairs of angry eyes turned to me. I just moved to Dad, though, ignoring Adonis and Cupid.

“Hi baby girl.” Dad whispered holding me closer and letting me cry into his shirt.

“Mom… Dad told me to tell you that it’s time.” Surya whispered and I moved quickly over to the seats of the gods’ and sat in my seat. I gestured for Surya and he came over to me.

“This is your seat.” I spoke loud enough for everybody to hear and suddenly all the gods were sitting in their seats. “Sit in your seat.” I told him.

“Alice?” Cupid asked gesturing to a seat beside Surya’s.

“How?” Surya whispered when they sat down.

“You chose to love even if you would lose.” Deshaun told him and then we sat with my son and husband both holding my hand. I did not cry during the funeral but after I went straight to my room. Cupid and I had not talked yet about our marriage but I was not going to discuss it right then so when he appeared beside me I got up and started to leave.

“Stay.” Cupid whispered with his hand outstretched. I took it like always and let him pull me to the bed.

“I can’t talk about our marriage right now.” I begged and he nodded.

“I can still comfort you.” He promised and I turned into his chest.
