Goodbyes are always hardA Chapter by Mary GreenwellChapter Eleven “Mom?” Surya waited for my nod telling him I was listening. “I want you to meet Alice.” I did not say a word but I looked at Cupid and he shook his head, “They can’t speak in front of you. I guess only vampire gods can.” “There are no vampire gods.” She told him before kissing him and leaving. “I want to marry her.” Surya told us and I tensed. “Then you’ll have to make your choice now.” Cupid told him, “If you marry, her or anybody else, in the mortal way you will lose your immortality and we won’t…” I left then knowing the end of that… if Surya married mortal we’d no longer be allowed to visit. “No Alena.” Bryn warned, “If you kill her you risk losing your sons love.” I forced myself back and just went to bed. Cupid came back a few hours later and turned me into his chest. “He’s discussing the choices with her.” Cupid whispered. “I’m going…” “No Alena stay with me tonight.” Cupid begged. We’d spent almost every night apart since I’d started visiting Surya at nights. I nodded but suddenly I was not with him. “If gods spend too long without their spouse… the marriage fades.” Deshaun explained. “So now you’ve taken away my husband too?” I snapped at Angel. “I’m only in charge of mortal love. I didn’t choose you for Cupid or Bryn for Adonis and I didn’t choose Alice for Surya but you ALL love each other some of you more than any mortal love I created.” Her eyes let me know that she was not happy about Cupid’s choice. “Why do you hate me?!” I yelled but we both felt Cupid coming and so she pasted on a happy face. “Alena, I saw your storm brewing outside.” Cupid pulled me to him while fishing for answers. “Your dad decided we weren’t married anymore.” I snapped. “I’m going to visit Mom.” I pulled away so he could not just ride my powers down. “Mommy…” I whispered when I saw that she was sick. “I’m old daughter.” She whispered holding onto her chest while she coughed. I stayed with her for a week before Cupid came to get me. “Why can’t I heal her?” I whispered through my tears. I was able to do everything almost as well as Deshaun but I could not heal Mom. “She’s not meant to live past this sickness… Dad’s just waiting for you to say bye before he sends River God.” River God was the transference god. He decided where you went. “Mommy?” I whispered and she opened her eyes painfully, “I have to say bye.” “I’m not scared, Alena.” She promised and then she faded. © 2013 Mary Greenwell |
