A BabyA Chapter by Mary GreenwellChapter Nine It was the anniversary of our wedding and I knew that Cupid and Bryn were planning a party but lately I’d been too busy with morning sickness and finding clothes to fit to even try to stop them. “How do you feel?” Cupid whispered waking me up from my nap. “Will you please take the nausea away?” I begged, “I have to check on all the packs today.” He chuckled but my nausea disappeared and I kissed him, “You’ll have to teach me how to do that to myself.” I smiled. “You’d never feel the joy of pregnancy then.” Angel laughed. “That’s my point I want to feel the joy instead of the nausea.” I stressed moodily. Another storm sounded off in the background and when Cupid and Angel tried to calm me the storm only got louder. “I’m going to go check on werewolves.” I snapped leaving. “If only I had the power to help her hormones.” I heard Cupid whisper to Angel so I sent a lightening bolt right beside him. I heard him jump but just kept walking knowing that I’d scared him. “Alena!” The first pack all called as I walked in. “Alena!!” Bryn came in right after me. “Cupid’s hurt.” She finally said and I stopped short. “How?” I whispered guilt and fear in my voice. “Not by your storm.” She promised taking my hand. “I have to tell you though it was really dumb to send lightening at him when your powers have been messed up.” “Where is he?” I asked as the sky filled with dark clouds. “In bed.” Angel promised and so I just let myself appear in the room but like usual now I ended up someplace completely different. My powers had been faulty since I’d become pregnant. I tried again though and finally after three more tries I landed in our room. “Alena…” Cupid smiled seeing me. “What happened?” I whispered taking his out stretched hand. “We’re not sure.” He sighed pulling me to him. “Just lay down here and take a nap with me.” I nodded and laid down smiling when he wrapped his arms around me in a way that he only did when he was feeling possessive. “What’s wrong?” I asked turning in his arms so I could look at him. “Nothing just happy to have my wife and…” he trailed off on baby. “What really happened?” “I got in a fight with Dad.” He whispered refusing to look at me. “What about?” I stressed. “The baby and you.” “What about our baby?” I managed. “It won’t be allowed to see the Mountain… Apparently with powers as big as he’ll have he will have to prove himself worthy…” “We don’t get our baby?” I whispered. “In order to make sure that he doesn’t see the Mountain… Dad’s sending you to the Priest.” I took hold of his shirt as the rain finally won its fight with the clouds. “Don’t make me leave.” I begged, “I’m still not fully goddess.” I whispered, “I would have to leave forever…” “Alena.” Deshaun whispered but I sent lightening straight at him, “I’m not going to make you stay there long enough to become mortal again.” “You’re taking my son!!” I exploded, “I don’t care about me…” I begged, “Please let him stay here… I’ll become mortal. Just don’t…” “Alena.” Cupid said simply and I forced myself to calm down, “Your father and mom will raise our son.” He promised, “They’ll always know who they are and when they’re old enough I’ll go tell them why they must be on Earth. Then after they prove themselves they’ll choose same as you did.” “Whether they marry or not?” I asked confused but slightly appeased knowing my son would be raised by people who would love him. “Whether to stay on the Mountain or Earth.” He corrected and I nodded. “How long?” I whispered. “You leave next week.” Deshaun told me and I moved closer to Cupid. “I’ll come visit you every night.” Cupid whispered in my ear. We had not spent a night apart since our wedding. “I love you.” I whispered to him and he kissed me softly. I spent two days in the private room of the temple and then I went into labor around noon of my third day. “I’m here.” Cupid promised beside me before my first scream finished. It felt like I was in labor for years but Cupid told me that it was just under three days. “My son…” I whispered when Cupid put him in my arms and we all felt the warmth of the abnormally bright sun. “His name…?” Daddy asked coming in. Cupid nodded at me to let me know it was safe to speak. “Surya.” I whispered, “Because he brought the sun.” I explained as Priest took my baby and transferred him to Daddy. “You will need to…” Cupid disappeared with Mom, Dad, and Surya as the volcano erupted. “Alena…” Cupid whispered forty days later. “The fire has to stop.” He explained and so for the next forty days I made rain. © 2013 Mary Greenwell |
