Chapter 2

I slept until the sun was up and then I walked over to the window only to see a pure whiteness that hurt my eyes and so I turned around to find myself staring at the most gorgeous being I’d ever seen.

“Did you sleep well?” He asked worriedly and I recognized the voice of the god that had carried me away from the iron table. “Alena?”

“Umm… yes…” I managed and he smiled making him only more beautiful and I had to turn my eyes away from him.

“I am Cupid.” He smiled and I stepped back. Cupid was a fake god of less progressed civilizations than mine. That meant something had gone wrong. “Not that Cupid.” He started to explain hurriedly at my look, “I am son of the Head God, Deshaun, and God of Love...”

“Angel.” I whispered feeling the need to prove that I was not an idiot, even if I had not memorized every god like I was supposed to, and I looked back at him eager for the beauty.

“Exactly and when they had me Father wanted to remember the old days and Mother wanted a way for me to remember that love is the most important thing to find in life.” I turned my eyes away from him again. His beauty was like a drug and I was already becoming addicted. “I want to know Alena…” he started touching me for the first time since he’d carried me here, “Will you become my goddess?” I felt my breath catch.

“I can’t even look outside.” I whispered.

“You’ll grow accustomed.” He promised, “It’s because your eyes are mortal still that the beauty hurts.”

“My eyes are mortal?” I whispered questioningly but then I remembered that it was like asking to be killed to question a god. “I mean…”

“Shh… my beautiful Alena… the most beautiful lady in the world… your questions are part of the reason that I love you.” He still seemed to be looking for an answer though and then I remembered his first question.

“Yes.” I whispered and he smiled again but with his hand holding my face up I could not turn away from his beauty.

“You’ll be able to walk around soon.” He promised when he let my face go. “In the meantime Mom and Dad are in the living room. That is if you’re interested.” He added slowly when I looked down.

“I’m not presentable.” I whispered and he smiled before lightly touching me to turn me towards a closet and suddenly the door was open.

“I’ve watched you and hope that these suit you well.” He whispered, “The bathroom is through these doors.” More doors swung open, “I’ve put some personal items for you in there. Just walk through these doors when you’re ready and I’ll be waiting.” He promised before running his lips across my cheek. He left then but I knew he was only outside the door letting me get ready. I’d never washed my hair by myself before and so I gave it my best try before giving up and trying to put it up. I gave up on that too after a few minutes realizing just how useless I was and I just moved to the closet and got dressed.

“Thank you.” I whispered feeling my hair move up onto my head and knowing that Cupid had done it.

“Anything. We’ll need to get you some food too.” He promised moving me closer to him- my stomach had been growling since I’d woken up- before leading me through the gorgeous house. I stopped a few times to look at things closer and each time he’d let me and then when I was done he’d pull me right back to him. “Mother… Father…” He smiled his voice louder than it’d been since he’d saved me when I flinched some he immediately tightened his arms and lowered his voice again, “This is Alena.” He was back to a whisper that I had not even realized he’d been in before.

“It’s a pleasure.” Angel smiled moving to hug me. I tried to keep up with the conversation as it floated naturally around me but I was finding that their voices were putting me to sleep.

“I think your bride needs a few more hours of sleep, son.” Deshaun chuckled but instead of commenting Cupid moved me in his lap and I realized suddenly that he’d already known that I was tired and that he’d pulled me into his side without me even noticing.

“Just take her to bed, Coop. It’s not very godly of you to be letting her sleep in a living room.” I quickly forced myself to sit up at Angel’s observation of how much lower I was, so much so that I did not even know the rules for etiquette with them. “Oh no…” Angel quickly promised as Cupid pulled me back over to him, “I didn’t mean that you have to sit up. I was completely rebuking my son for not letting you be comfortably in bed.”

“Do you want to go back to bed?” Cupid whispered down to me but I was too tired to even turn to look at him. I felt him stand up laying me down on the couch and then I heard the goodbyes to his parents before he picked me back up. “Off to bed.” He explained looking down at me.

“Cupid?” I whispered looking around and he smiled walking out of the bathroom.

“Yes?”

“What’s a marriage like up here?” I asked my nerves coming through.

“Pretty much the same as a human marriage. We are more bonded here though.”

“How do you become a god?”

“You marry one and spend enough time in their kingdom or you are born one.” He smiled it seemed to really make him happy that I was willing to ask the questions. “I told you it was one of the things I loved most.” He smiled moving to sit on the bed with me. He looked at me for a long minute though, “Do you want to look outside?” he asked picking me up off the bed and leading me eagerly to the window. When he opened the blinds I gasped because right below us was the mountain where Dad and Bryn lived and in the clouds with us was a whole world… I was on The Mountain of The Gods.
