Chapter Thirty-nineA Chapter by Mary GreenwellChapter 39 “Why you didn’t even realize I wasn’t supposed to?” “I’m sorry Cole I just…” I trailed off not sure how to explain myself. “No I’m sorry Cole.” Kalila said beside me. “It’s partly my fault. She became like she is because of me. She had to become a fighter because somebody told her my life was at stake. If you want to be hurt it’s not her fault it’s mine.” “No it’s not Kali just because I’m a fighter doesn’t give me the excuse to get so obsessed that I hurt the ones I love.” “Relax Lily-be you’ll learn everything you can from him and you’ll beat him and you’ll eventually beat Jonathon once and for all and everything will be calm for once in our lives.” He smiled at me as he wrapped his arms around me, “Did you have a good practice?” “You don’t really want to hear about it.” I whispered, “Tell me about your day.” “Or we could have that family meeting that made it where you left your practice early.” Leo suggested. “Early?” Cole asked. “We were really just talking then anyway. I was waiting for somebody to come get me. I got that…” I trailed off shaking my head and my smile faded as I reminded myself I was not going to tell him about practice. My obsession would not come back into our conversation. “You finally got that…?” he asked softly. “I finally got over that kick of his.” I whispered knowing he was telling me he wanted to know about my practice. I smiled widely but tilted my face up to his lips that were bent to kiss him. He kissed me back eagerly as he got my message that I could be happy about practice but not obsessed about it. “I think I like this compromise.” He sent. “I promise I’m not going to let my obsession get so bad that I don’t listen to you anymore.” “It is okay, Lily-be. I’ll prove it as soon as Leo finishes his stupid family meeting.” “If I ever do it again though will you just kick me?” “Kicking you isn’t the best idea when you are obsessed with fighting.” “Then just tell me so I know.” “Okay but please relax, Lily-be I promise everything is okay and you will learn everything you can from Professor Stridden soon and will be back to worrying about Kalila telling us about the time you obsessed over me as much as you do fighting…” his thoughts were questioning. “I might tell you one day.” “I bet Kalila tells me before you do.” “She’ll die before I do too then.” “Do you two mind?” Piper asked. “Yes we do.” I told her, “We are trying very hard to have a private conversation and you and Leo keep interrupting with this crap about a family meeting. I’m thinking about just freezing everybody.” “Watch it I gave you that power and I’ll take it back too.” Mom said coming in, “Sorry I’m late.” She smiled at Piper. “It’s no problem. Cole and Lily were just entertaining all of us with their lovely lovey dovey ness.” Kalila gagged hugging her. “Shut it Kali.” I laughed, “You’re still in trouble for your comment at lunch.” “What comm….” She trailed off remembering and laughed, “Oh yeah so you guys she was in this gym…” “Shut up!!!!!!!!” I roared jumping out of Cole’s arms and tackling her. “Wow this is going to be a good story.” Ethan laughed. “Oh it is.” Kalila laughed, “I can’t believe I forgot it until lunch.” “I can’t believe I reminded you of it!” I groaned still sitting on her. “What are they talking about?” Dad asked. “Oh Lily apparently didn’t meet Cole when Cole thinks they met and it’s obviously a very interesting embarrassing story…” Austin gestured to me. “That only Kalila has the honor of knowing.” Lindsey finished. “I was the only other one there.” Kalila laughed. “I wouldn’t have known if Piper hadn’t told us that Cole was part demon before he was vampire.” “Wait!” Cole’s eyes flashed comprehension. “I’m killing you Kali!!!!!” I yelled knowing she’d clued in his thoughts that had to be triggered with his type of vampire. “He would have never remembered if you wouldn’t have told him it was before he turned!!!” Cole was laughing now and I was blushing bright red. “How was I supposed to know all I had to do was trigger it?” Kalila said innocently. “I’m not an idiot you still study!!” I yelled. “Relax Lily-be.” Cole laughed trying to hug me but I moved from him, “I think it’s sweet that you liked me even then.” “Real sweet sure the next thing you’re going to say was it was a really romantic first meeting.” I said sarcastically. “Oh no that it wasn’t.” he laughed a little harder but I glared a little harder and he got under control. “Lily-be it was funny.” “Not for me. I don’t think standing bare chested in front of the man that turned out to be your soul mate the first time you meet him is very funny.” I frowned. “You won the fight.” He tried. “I always win the fight.” I growled. “Not with Booth.” Kalila put in. “Now is probably not the time for that.” Cole told her trying once again to hold me. When I walked away this time he gave up and just shimmered around me. “I hate when you do this.” I whispered. “I hate when you do that so we’re even.” He told me softly kissing my head, “Now tell me why I wasn’t allowed to remember the first time I saw your beautiful face but you could remember our first meeting?” “Because it was a horrible first meeting.” I groaned not even wanting to mention the biggest reason again while everybody else was still laughing. “Can I tell you how I remember the meeting?” he whispered. “Am I going to be able to stop you?” “No.” “Then go ahead.” “I remember seeing the most beautiful girl in the world staring at me with the biggest eyes. She looked so terrified and I just knew it was because of what she’d just seen my brother do. I ran away not because she was bare chested but because I was ashamed to call the thing that had scared her, my brother. For the next weeks all I could see was her beautiful face and long black hair and those scared eyes anytime I saw a witch or felt the pull of my demon side. Then a vampire changed me. For some reason I felt a pull into this family and then Piper gave me the potion and I remembered clearly who my family was because I felt the pull of the demon but I was with you then and I couldn’t give into the pull or tell you about it.” He whispered and I realized too late that I’d relaxed into his arms and they’d tightened lovingly around me. “Your story is better.” I whispered to him and he chuckled before kissing me. “Can we please tell you what we wanted to have a family meeting for now?” Piper asked. “Yes.” I nodded from Cole’s chest refusing to move. “We need to plan the wedding meaning the boys need to leave.” Mom said. “No!” I exclaimed, “Cole stays or you plan the wedding without me. Japanese tradition said that the mother planned it anyway.” “Honey that tradition ended thousands of years before you were even born.” Mom sighed. “Time to bring it back if you think Cole’s leaving,” I shrugged. “Looks like Cole’s here.” Leo laughed and Cole tightened his arms around me as we all started to plan the first wedding I actually cared about. © 2013 Mary Greenwell |
