Study In Scarlet

Study In Scarlet

A Poem by Rosalind Gale

A balsa wood ship, silhouetted against the shrieks -

Bends to a silent shore.

Your green eyes lollop low, red wisps kiss curl away,

Moon's light rustles through my smile, her

Sweetness of shallow breathing. Milk that will never sour.

Oh my glorious one, your pale mountainous cheeks,

Little winter lilies -

Such torrential salt snaky streams

Fade to your now untroubled soul

Coiled around me.

And a day on earth without you,

As a broken compass -

Pointless.

Breathless my friend, this apotheosis, elevation to diving status of a mothers relationship
with child. A dads distance is so often lost in that air of spontaniety. Sometimes even metaphorical.
But a mother, by design, wears that distance like a blouse.

sweet and tender Ros.
I love it,
dana

I have always wanted to build and own one of those ships inside a bottle, the kind that are so intricate that one can not tell it from a real one, in which the galley would be filled with those tiny rice seeds that have pictures and matching haiku or a "sinner you" painted on them so delicately and so incredibly small that one would need a microscope to read it, I'd have a whole treasure chest full of them, and then I would tell you all about them except what they said, and it would drive you mad with curiosity.
You are so blessed to have that Baby with the same birthdate as the Father and on my my Dad's birthday too, how incredible such a little miracle? the pictures are breathtaking, I thought that only happened in my family. :) The same birth date thing...anyway this brings back so many beautiful memories.

This is true beauty to me. The images and metaphors you use to express your bond are totally original and truly hit home. I can't even quote specific lines since every stanza reads like a poignant poem in and of itself. Wonderful work :)

Dear Rosalind, I too watched my daughter enter this world without breath and I spend my life trying not to think of it in order to survive. This is as all you poems so beautifully written. Such sadness expressed in well crafted work.

Ah I remeber it so well ! If only it were possible to bottle the scent of a new born or to capture the softness of their skin and the blissful sound of baby breaths. Your Scarlet sounds beautiful and as demanding as every child needs to be. So lovely to read you again dear Rosa but so understand the need for your silence. Don't miss a second of her x Shelley

Amazing photo and poetry. You took me good places and create good visions. I like the story in the poem. The ending is true. Life is pointless when we miss and need someone. Thank you for the excellent poetry.
