Disappointment

Disappointment

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Disappointment

Disappointment will bring you right down

Down to earth

Back to the thick of things

To the way things are

A step closer with this new vision

To acceptance

Just a tad bit closer

To what it is you want

Don’t fight it

Move, move closer

With acknowledgement of your desire

Without the pain of disappointment

There is less clarity

More actual confusion

More disregard of that which is in the playground of life

Disappointment gets such a bad rap

Like this ugly messenger

The unwanted visitor with too bright of lights

We like it dim sometimes

The collective of I

The collective of dreams and desire

Disappointment leads such a narrow path

You cannot stray as far

It brings you right back

It’s a friend you know

Bold and simply true

Let me air out my feelings

I have an old friend

A visitor
