Something Good

Something Good

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Something Good

We have come this far

Our species has survived

Our goodness has survived

Our madness though along

A hiccup in the continuum of our goodness

This basic goodness has carried us

Is the glue of our of survival

A pivotal point in perspective

Yes it is a fact

Goodness has already prevailed

The fact remains

That we have not self destruct

There is something good

Something inherent

And it is all around us

Our will to survive

There may be mold on the tree, a cut off branch

But the promise of tomorrow

The promise of light

Is carried in the seed

And there it lay in the truth of our hearts

Something good

Perhaps more readily transparent

Through the ignorance of ego

And its expression of greed

Still something good already there

Still as a stream on an autumn night reflecting the moon

Reflecting the backdrop of our mind

This feedback itself is good

And our will to survive

To navigate through and turn on the light

It is up to us

And our inheritance right there with us
