The Finish Line

The Finish Line

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

The Finish Line

I lost my friend

Just now

The lake I was in

Just dried

Here all alone again

It just ended

It was, sort of limping along

Looking the other way I took the joy

Now it ended

No more rain

I pray it not be a drought

Let those inspirations

Rain again

With a man this time

Nothing is to be taken for granted

Our time together

Our moments shared

The joys and laughter

All in unison

Except our motivation

Except our direction

There is no perhaps

I lost my friend

She lost more than that

Let me not lose my esteem than I deserve better than that

For a friendship true to its path

The glue more than infatuations masked

Though I knew

Only a matter of time

Before the drought

Before the finish line

We have arrive

And now are parted

Blessings with you

May your world be kind
