Here I Stand

Here I Stand

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Here I Stand

Let my heart be not afraid

To be soft

In the presence of its deep desire

Let my knees be not weak

In the presence of a perhaps

The offer of the knowns

Every time accelerate to the dead ends of square one

Let my mind be not timid in trusting

That my voice can be mine

Not when the ruins lay

No

But from the laying of bricks

Let the truth of my heart be the cement

Not the fear creeping between melodies

For heaven’s sake

Let me build a song

Of the voice of truth that the guts speak of in dreams

Let me discover possibility

Simply that

Outside the confines of theory and move on to lab

And be not afraid of science

Let me remember forgiveness

When walking in the door

Beginners may break a glass

That my heart may remain unbroken is not an undiscovered paradigm

My back is here

To the dead ends of knowns

Here I stand
