Contentment

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Contentment

What need is there

For me to make a thing of him

Just as I be determined

What do I fathom lacking

When being already equipped

With full faculties

In search of what more

In some denial

I want insurance for that which is

Is it not enough

Just to be

To show up

A perfect night it was

In the hot tub

With friends showing up

Where n*****s where free to be

And the kindness that touched my heart

I need to remind

This hard working mind

That we can afford the vacation

Of less is more

That our eyes and ears truthful as the sun

That the ground can be stable

If dare I stand the truth

Of a moments fleeting rise

Of the sunset birthing the moon

And the musky foliage after the rain

The hooting owls lullaby

Where the birds fly outside the cage

Trusting the wind

The sky and the gifted structure of their wings

Come, let us fly

My pal Sal has showed up
