A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Inspiration

I see Image after another

Of magnificence captured, sheer glory

To blow a mind and leave in dust

Galaxies, milky ways, nebula

And all divine that exists

I’m left in a yearning

To be a star

To shine brightly and radiate colorful orbs

Atomic explosions and implosions of all kinds

From the veil of black holes and mysterious unknowns

I am left to aspire to so much

Such greatness

I forget I’m dust in the wind

Among so many as is the desert

Such perfection seen from above small perspective

Yet even here you give enough

Enough for my eye to capture a glimpse

For my tongue to taste my own saliva

Enough for my ears to hear

My souls quiver

Smell the truth of odor

My body to feel the fever and the chill

Knowing it is but a taste

And yet how fulfilling

When I just wait

Imagination so great as a droplet

Into the ocean from which I bathe

So much to cleanse

So much ability left to discover

You give in way

I want to feel this very day
