Take It Slow

Take It Slow

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Take It Slow

There is a tight rope

I see it only below my feet

If I make a turn haphazardly

I fall

Alone

Sometimes the money leads

Sometimes, I want it to

Just to forget what’s below

Yes, to even forget my own two feet

Something tells me to take it slow

I guess I better trust my own two feet

There is yet something more

In full demand of my attention

The need to trust the rope

Its weave and twists

Even its slipperiness from the sweat of my feet

Something tells me to take it slow

Monkey is there eager and hungry

I think I better powder my feet

So that the joy and salt

Can remember that there is nothing here to grip
