Nowness

Nowness

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Nowness

I haven’t figured it out

I don’t believe we need either

To be immersed in the newness of now

Free from heaven and hell

Certain of death and disease

In the newness that connects

Strings a stream, however seamless

Filled of stars and wind

Of land and man

Of a bird in flight

And song in heart

Filled with sand shallow thoughts

And deep wet feelings

Of gems buried in rock

And pollen whispered in wind

Of bursting bubbles and forming weaves

Of tree trunks cracking

Smiles teeth birthing

Tasting, smelling, hearing, seeing, intuiting

Palpating, pushing, pulling, growing, shedding,

Adding, subtracting

I don’t believe in prerequisites

Yet wish to be free from such anchors

Just be, and arrive on land where

Anchors and crunches are free standing

Sheer ornaments of a colored mirage

In honor of gravity, magnetism and mystery

Can this be

I steer and come back

Need this be

I return

Immersing in the nowness

Of a taping tap

Filled with more than can fill a vacuous cap

Let it be and see me

See me
