Galactic Knitters

Galactic Knitters

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Galactic Knitters

My friend threw me a gem

Revelation and apocalypse

Mean the same

I caught it with rain

Into my well echoing

Revolution and apocalypse

Mean the same

He passed another

From his lineage

Samsara is kind

I caught this two faced coin

To mean the same

And the glue

Which is me, which is you

He strung me a pearl

Without compassion

Even wisdom is dangerous

My friend is true

He continued his prayer

That we ask for guidance

From those who have balanced wisdom and compassion

In their hearts scale

Tears shed

The ship sailed away

And his words went on to say

We can only ask that we may be guided to do the same

My friend has not sailed away

Galactic knitters are here to stay

Not alone on cliff tops of prayer

In the landfills where innocent and ignorance play

Day after day
