Palm Leaf

Palm Leaf

A Poem by Maryam Mottahedeh

Palm Leaf

The young palm leaf stands out reaching

Higher than everyone

Higher than all the rest

Who slowly, bow down in humility to gravity’s pull

The force at the core of the earth

The young leaf exudes high moral

Optimism and purity

With high ideals of the limitless skies

While proudly stating it’s being

Unrestrained to the limitations that are

Upright, with a force ready

Where innocence and purity turn to ego

To…...singling oneself out

The tree behold all in stillness

And in flexibility dances with the elements

Let me behold this vision and accept my body parts

Accept my limitations and reach with purity

Let my eyes be not jaded, by gravity

Nor the elements that flow through the tunnels and alleys of my mind

Let them remain unrestrained from judgment

Let the truth of the very membrane that carries me

Be vacuous of rigidity

And I

Then

Am  free
