A Bullet Runs FasterA Poem by martinos74Take a look at the news lately and you'll know what I meanHave you read the news today? A man buries his Brother under an Egyptian sun, Dressed in blue cloth, he is laid to the floor, Shot by a sniper in the back of his head, As he went about his daily business, In the midst of the chaos. Have you read the news today? It hurts. A Brotherhood, an army, A day of anger rises from a shallow grave, A blue scarf covers the feet of a lifeless man, Dusty wooden boxes litter the street, Surrounded like ants, and raised aloft by strangers, neighbours, lovers, brothers, poets, priests and politicians. Have you read the news today? It hurts. A woman cries over her baby's loss, Left on the side of the street, Her tears fall into blood stained dust, Tainted, She's lost. Is there hope? Is there fear? Is there anger? Is there pain? Is there regret? Is there retribution? Is there friendship under a decaying sky? On the ground the fire burns, Street by street torn down and in flames, A barricade of sand, brings no defense, As it's kissed and bullied by the side of a tank, Stand down, Stand down! Don't be a martyr, A man tries to run, But a bullet runs faster. Violence begets Violence. --------------------- London, England : August 2013 Download recording at: https://soundcloud.com/martinos74/a-bullet-runs-faster
