Memory Lane

Memory Lane

A Poem by Martha Gilleece

Memory lane is paved with regrets

and filled with guilt
caused by the ones once known.

Their pain slithers about
throughout
the bloodstream and resurrects the hurt.

Memory lane is always dark
with the shadows of old lovers.
Their words are painted on the concrete walls

like graffiti, bright and bold exposing all.

Memory lane is never quiet.

The piercing sound of unsaid thoughts
carries on forever
like a vast, blue ocean
that leads to nowhere
.

Memory lane will cause your goose bumps to rise.

The breeze is cold and sharp as it pinches your skin,
for the touch of their hands blows with wind.

It is always night down memory lane.

The sky glows bright with souls from the past.
Though time will deny, it remains a beautiful sight

to watch them dance about within the light.

Let me think; there was the two of us on the
"Ferris Wheel", you giggling and hanging on to
my arm, then you were a tall, voluptuous girl
who kissed me in the back of my friend`s pick-up
and we giggled, then , oh you must know when
there was that time and the girl who will never be
forgotten , because you know. I was left with
unforgettable memories.

I can hardly wait to find out what the future holds,
life has been a gaggle of memorable times with friends
that will never be forgotten, people burned in to my
mind.
Dare I ever forget----- Never.

Thank you for another trip down the lane,
