Confinement

Confinement

A Poem by Martha Gilleece

Everyone’s chanting
     peace and love,
     a different way to live.
 Let there be
     no more blood.

Do they realize now
     that change includes more
     than a paltry, white dove?

Help that poor boy.
Ask him how it feels
     being dragged through the mud.

The cost of life
     is constantly rising.
The hero feeds
      on our pride,
     growing his power.

Like a business man disguising

     his plan of action.
No one left to devour.
