Funny how...

Funny how...

A Poem by Marshal Gebbie

Funny how you perceive a complete stranger

....to be a friend.

- Simply, on the strength of a few lines of prose

- Simply, because of an element of warmth in those words…

- Simply, because of a touch of understanding in the message and a trace of humanity in the tone.

And funny how, over time, you come to rely

On that presence…to be there.

A sort of subliminal assurance that you are

In the proximity of something of value.

And it’s not funny at all

That, when this is abruptly withdrawn,

...There is a tangible sense of loss, of betrayal.

Funny, really, how vulnerability manifests itself.

I am assuming, and I may be wrong I know, that this is a relationship over the internet. If so, it seems to me that we can get very attached to people that we only know through their patters on the keyboard. Some of those relationships can be just as close as if we sipped coffee together on the patio. There is a true loss when someone seems to disappear....I feel it when one of my writer friends is no longer around to share. You did well here in bringing that up and I enjoyed it.

Quite correct Shimmer, a well regarded fellow poet suddenly withdrew
from all contact. The affect was like a death in the family.
Curious how attached one becomes in ethereal associations.

This is exactly right. I's best to protect yourself from this kind of loss.
