Sing a Pure and Simple Song

Sing a Pure and Simple Song

A Poem by Marshal Gebbie

Sing a Pure & Simple Song

Tirelessly, insatiably I launch myself at life,
Ineptly and indelibly immerse myself in strife,
Implacably to wallow forth
To wade waist deep in mire;
Oh to emerge upon the other side
In white, immaculate attire?

Like a spindle spinning in the air
Like a blaze of crystal lost
Like a bubble bursting, round and pink,
To a million scattered drops.
And the day is cast upon the sand
To dissipate in just a blink
And the chances of resurgence
Evacuated down the sink.

Doggerel eviscerated
Misinformation scrapped,
To live your life in mediaville
Is to have your mindset mapped.
To volunteer your consciousness,
Donate your living will,
Is viciousness incarnate
And a living death fulfilled.

So abandon not the living
Don't forfeit all your plans,
Gather up your dearest, dearest friends
Resurrect your marriage bands.
Demand an explanation
and insist on detail clear,
Tell the Pope to get another life
Because the current one's veneer.

Lay about you with a broadsword
Clear the decks of all the wrong,
Commit to cutting the expediency
And sing a pure and simple song.
