She listens to JazzA Poem by MarquiseSo she listens to jazz... smooth skin melodic undertones nostalgic scars her scabs are shaped like treble clef notes
rhythms at war surround sound stereo be her chessboard and the black and white chess pieces are stored in memory where thoughts are recycled and not birthed
But Grover Washington Jr. must be a mind-reader because when she listens to jazz the saxophones drown out the sounds that surround her
the chess pieces two-step together as the chessboard spreads open, cries, and forms into piano keys it joins the band and for once the only war going on is peace against love
so she listens to jazz not to forget about the past but to create in melodies what she can't find the words she needs to escape herself sometimes... © 2012 MarquiseFeatured Review
